Reset HP expired printer ink

April 13th, 2011 25 comments

THIS IS FOR HP battery type of printers only. Even with a battery, some printers might not work. If this doesn’t work you may try disconnecting all the connectors on the circuit board for an hour or look for a software reset method. Even though I collect lots of HP printers as a hobby, I’m clueless about most of them. This video is how to reset the ink on your HP printer. There’s no need to dissemble the printer to get to the battery. A long pair of tweezers to pull the CMOS battery out from its casing for a short time will work just fine. Some printers may not keep time by using the battery alone. Read more at www.land.netonecom.net

2009.02.07 Brother Printer Empty Ink Trick

Until today, I didn’t realize that Brother printers suck. It won’t let you print with just black ink. You have to have all the color cartridges in there as well and they can’t be empty… that is unless you know how to trick them.

There is a little window on the back of each cartridge. All you have to do is cover that with duct tape (I didn’t have any, so I used a band-aid) and work the tape down into the grooves/side of the little window. The printer sensors that check ink levels will think the cartridges are full.

Now whether or not it ruins my printer is yet to be seen.

July 27, 2006 – I ran out of black today. I don’t know why I let it irk me. I know that ink cartridges are about five times more expensive than they ought to be. Manufacturers sell the hardware at unreasonably low prices then, in turn, gouge us on the consumables.

This image is in a set called "My Daily Photo Stream". Whereas the focus of my eJournal and images blog is on text, I want to create an emphasis on photos here. I’ll shoot and add an image each day. Doing so will remind me to constantly carry my camera and it’ll be a more direct record of current, personal experiences.

Save the Environment & Use Recycled Printer Ink Cartridges

August 2nd, 2010 Comments off

The business of manufacturing printer inks and printer ink cartridges is a multimillion-dollar industry. Most people who own computers also own printers and make use of printer ink cartridges. Hundreds of millions of printer ink cartridges were sold in Europe and the United States in the last two years alone.

The question is: where do all these empty printer ink cartridges go? Ideally, used printer ink cartridges should find their way to special recycling centers where the materials these cartridges were made of are retrieved for future use. Unfortunately, only 25% of all those millions of cartridges consumed every year go that way.

Empty Printer Ink Cartridges Can Contribute to Pollution

Empty printer ink cartridges are non-biodegradable products. This means that if these cartridges end up in a landfill, they will just sit there for years and years without decaying.

Not only that, the chemicals that make up printer ink, not to mention the chemicals that make these inks resistant to fading as well as produce brilliant colors, can be quite harmful to the environment. These chemicals are also capable of seeping into the soil in the landfill and finding their way into the ground water. From the ground water, they can eventually get mixed into other bodies of water, even into the ocean. Next thing we know, we are actually drinking printer ink chemicals in our coffee and eating sushi made with fish tainted with printer ink chemicals.

Printer Ink Cartridges are Made from Finite Resources

We also need to consider the materials that make up the printer ink cartridge itself. Each printer ink cartridge is made from plastic and metal. Plastic is a by-product of petroleum while metals are mined from the earth. Both petroleum and metal are finite resources.

Recycling Printer Ink Cartridges Helps the Environment

Rather than simply throwing away empty printer ink cartridges, we should all be conscientious enough to bring them to special recycling centers. Also, before we buy a printer, we ought to check out if the manufacturer of this printer we are interested in has some sort of recycling program wherein they accept empty printer ink cartridges carrying their brand name.

We could also buy remanufactured printer ink on occasion. This type of printer ink makes use of recycled cartridges. However, before we buy remanufactured printer ink cartridges, we ought to make sure that these cartridges will not harm our printers, especially if our printers are still under warranty. Good companies that deal with remanufactured printer ink cartridges will always offer guarantees that their products will not ruin printers.

Always be conscientious even with the printer ink cartridges that you use. Recycle empty cartridges and buy remanufactured ink as much as possible.

betterguideforyou.com — Make The World More Colorfull I’m confused here on the price I find it very strange that this HP-564XL black inkjet printer cartridge is going for .93 on Amazon. I was at Best Buy only a few hours ago earlier tonight, and this very item is selling for .99 there, and it’s not even on sale at that store. None of the items at Best Buy were marked for sale or on sale this week or in any other way discounted. All of the 564XL cartridges are going for .99 at Best Buy. I repeat, none of them were on sale. The cardboard retail packaging is exactly the same as pictured here. (These prices at Best Buy don’t include the sales tax yet.) I thought Amazon was supposed to be cheaper, not more expensive. Am I missing something here? My experience with 564XL Black has been fine so far, no issues at all, my five stars are for the quality of this cartridge and have nothing to do with Amazon or Amazon’s pricing of this cartridge. The Basics of Printer Ink Cartridges

February 16th, 2010 Comments off

To many people, printer ink cartridges are all the same. One printer ink cartridge is no different from another printer ink cartridge in their eyes. Most of the time, lack of knowledge in that area does not have a significant impact in their everyday lives.

However there comes a time when knowledge of printer ink cartridges comes handy. When you find yourself buying a printer, it is advisable for you to know more about printer ink cartridges so you will know what kind of printer is right for you.

Here are the common types of printer ink cartridges for your easy reference:

Inkjet printer ink cartridge — These printer ink cartridges contain liquid ink, usually in black, and shades of cyan, magenta, and yellow. Black is on its own; colors are sometimes combined in one printer ink cartridge or in separate printer ink cartridges. The printer ink cartridges would have a microchip to communicate its level of remaining ink to the printer and computer.

Laser toner printer ink cartridge – They contain dry ink, and they print by electrically charging these particles into the paper. Usually these printer ink cartridges come in black but color toners are now available for color laser printers. All colors are combined in one toner cartridge. The lifetime of these printer ink cartridges is dependent on the number of pages it regularly prints. Each cartridge contains the dry ink, photoreceptor, waste toner bottle, and blades.

Aside from the most common listed above, there are other printer ink cartridges in the market, and they are:

Solid ink toners — They are usually used for photocopying machines.

Dye sublimation cartridge —They are usually used for textile printing. The cartridge is similar to a film and color is printed into the paper by heat. One color is printed at a time until all colors are layered and the final image is printed.

Then there are the obsolete printer ink cartridges. They are no longer in the market but knowing about them is interesting:

Daisy wheel cartridges — They were used for old school typewriters. A ribbon of ink is spun on two opposite wheels, and while the hammer of a typewriter’s key is struck, it moves along to ensure fresh ink is imprinted on the paper.

Dot matrix cartridges – Their mechanism is similar to a daisy wheel cartridge, but the ribbon is now run along the length of the cartridge. The ribbon is placed between the print head and the paper, and the print head will hammer the ink into the paper with tiny pins to create the text and/or image.

Wasn’t that fun? Now you know the basics of printer ink cartridges. Although far from being an expert, you can now say that you have knowledge on the subject. You can now buy with confidence, knowing that you can point out exactly what you need. No salesman can fool you into buying cartridges that you do not need. Look out for those who will try to sell you daisy wheel cartridges!

Here you will find the internets lowest prices for Printer Ink Cartridges, Compatible Inkjet Cartridges, remanufactured toners in Canada and all of our products.

This my Canon, MP830 Pixma Printer. Among the many printer cartridge
errors that I get on a daily basis is this one. ERROR U071, telling me
that I’ve installed more than one of the same types of ink cartridges.
Which is something i wouldn’t do. Normally it just tells me that I’m
out of a particular type of ink then when I know I’m not. So today
it’s trying throw me off with a different message.

Personally I’m of the opinion that Canon is trying to churn cartridge
sales by sending users bad information. It’s as if they’re are trying to
steal from me everytime I print … Which is how often I get odd
printer messages.

Until Canon proactively fixes the problem for its faithful customers
I’m going to do my part now to hurt Canons sales.

I don’t suggest anyone EVER buy Canon printers.

How to Recycle Printer Ink Cartridges

November 14th, 2009 Comments off

When the ink in your printer cartridge runs out, what do you do? Do you just chuck the printer ink cartridge in with the trash, or do you recycle them?

According to statistics, there are hundreds of millions of printer ink cartridges sold every year in Europe and in the United States alone. However, only a bare 5% of those printer ink cartridges ever find their way to a recycling center once they are used up.

Why Recycle Printer Ink Cartridges?

Advocates of the environment have two major reasons why they think printer ink cartridges should be recycled. One is that printer ink cartridges can harm the environment, while the other is that the materials they are made of come from finite sources that need to be conserved.

1. Printer ink cartridges are pollutants. Printer ink cartridges are non-biodegradable materials. When they find their way to a landfill, they do not rot so they just sit there for years. What is bad about that is that the chemicals that printer inks are made of are harmful.

2. Printer ink cartridges are made from finite sources. Printer ink cartridges are primarily made from plastic and metal. Plastic is a derivative of petroleum while metals are mined from the earth. Both petroleum and metal ores are finite and there is no knowing when they will be exhausted.

As thus, printer ink cartridges need to be recycled rather than just thrown away. The two main methods of recycling printer ink cartridges are: 1) refilling them when they become empty; and 2) giving or selling them to recycling centers.

Recycling Printer Ink Cartridges by Refilling

One of the simplest ways of recycling printer ink cartridges is by taking them to an ink refilling station to get them refilled, or by buying ink refill kits for some do-it-yourself refilling. If you are not so finicky about the quality of the ink in refill kits (we do need to recognize that inks in refill kits are not the same as original inks), then you can extend the life of your printer ink cartridge by refilling it once or twice.

Giving Printer Ink Cartridges to a Recycling Center

Once your printer ink cartridge cannot be refilled anymore, you can take it to a facility that recycles them. These recycling centers will even pay you for your empty cartridge, unless you specify that the cartridges are your donation to the facility. What these recycling centers will do to your printer ink cartridge is to retrieve the materials and find other uses for these materials.

The idea of recycling printer ink cartridges is not just some fad. It is a serious matter that we need to take seriously. Do your part and recycle your printer ink cartridges.

Printer Ink Cartridge Faq

July 20th, 2009 Comments off

span style=”font-size: 12pt; font-family: “Times New Roman”;”>What makes a printer unit’s price reasonable or expensive is the amount of printer cartridges that are bought for a specific period of time. Printer units generally provide information on ink printer cartridges to the users in the manual. Here are some of the common concerns that consumers frequently ask with regards to printer cartridges.

Number of Pages a Cartridge Can Print Out

Generally, printer cartridge manufacturers would often provide information on the number of pages one set of cartridges (black and colored) can print out. This number can oftentimes be rather inaccurate because these are often tested using basic text and images using the lowest print quality available to the printer unit.

Shelf and Storage Life of the Printer Cartridge

Expiration dates are often printed on the boxes of printer ink cartridges. This expiration date tells up to when a printer cartridge can be stored. This usually spans roughly two to three years from the time that it is manufactured. It is important to store printer cartridges in a cool and dry area.

Generic versus Original Printer Cartridges

Many printer consumers would often purchase printer units for as long as they know that the printer cartridges used for this unit is available in both original and generic labels. This plus factor is due to the fact that generic printer cartridges are much cheaper than original printer cartridges. In fact, generic printer cartridges are sold for half the price of original printer cartridges.

However, the use of generic printer cartridges for printer units does have its share of disadvantages:

Drying Up of the Ink Cartridge. Generic printer cartridges are more prone to drying which would result to clogging of the ink cartridge and printer nozzle. In order to unclog the cartridge and printer nozzle, the printer would need to flush the dried up ink out through the use of the remaining usable ink the in the cartridges. Eventually, this would lead to lesser ink to be used for printing out materials.

Higher Chance of Leakage. Generic printer cartridges are manufactured using already used printer cartridges which are refilled and repackaged. Sometimes the areas where the ink is refilled into the cartridge are not properly sealed. This would cause not only a substantial amount of ink to be lost, but also may cause damage to the printer itself.

Continuous Printing

Inkjet printers have the capability to mix a variety of colors to create high quality images and text documents. Although there are separate ink cartridges for black ink and colored ink, inkjet printers are still able to create black ink by mixing colors to preserve the amount of black ink remaining. Some printers, however, stop the printing process once one of the cartridges is out of ink.

A Photo a Day – May 13, 2010.

Ink. It’s probably one of the most expensive liquids on the planet. On single cartridge of black ink for my printer is .00 after sales tax. I can’t find numbers anywhere on the actual amount of ink that’s in a cartridge, but guessing by the size of it, it can’t be more than a fluid ounce. That equates to about 04.00 per gallon. So now gas prices don’t look so bad after all (we’re about .80-.50/gal in Maryland). Even if you fill up more than you do replacing ink, I think you still come out ahead.

The only thing that may be more expensive than ink would be certain medications. I know that Epogen is highly expensive. A quick search on Google shows that a 1mL vial is going for around .00. That equates out to roughly 1,725.00 per gallon!

Think about this the next time you hit "PRINT".

Cartridge: Don’t Drop Me!

Don’t drop your cartridge, as it might break and spill it’s ink all over your floor. And then you’re in serious trouble – printer ink is even worse than the ancient ink, and is not removable from your floor.

So if you like a colorful floor, go ahead, drop a few. But if you want to keep your floor as it is, better watch out ;)

5 Facts About Printer Ink Cartridges

May 31st, 2009 Comments off

You are probably not aware of the problems like profits and legalities that that surround printer ink cartridges if your only an owner of a computer printer. Printer ink cartridges are important necessities all over the world. Below are 5 interesting facts and figures about printer ink cartridges.

1. Think of the money. Before buying a bargain basement brand-name printer, be sure to look into the price of printer ink cartridges. Most computer printer manufacturers sell their printers at a very low price, which makes them affordable for the consumers. The profit for computer printer manufacturers lies in the sell of printer ink cartridges. According to a survey, printer ink cartridges business is responsible for billion (US) per year in sales.

2. Standards. Concerned about the burgeoning cost of printer ink, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have established testing standards for printers. These standards help manufacturers and consumers determine the yield (number of pages) of printer inkjet cartridges and toner cartridges. This information allows actual cost per page of printing to be calculated.

3. Legalities. Virtually every major printer manufacturer has been involved in lawsuits regarding the sale and use of re-manufactured inkjet or laser printer ink cartridges. In Japan, Epson won a case with the result that the sale of re-manufactured cartridges is banned. Both Canon and Hewlett-Packard have been involved in lawsuits over both cartridges and alleged unfair competition.

4. The single use concept. In 2005, Lexmark won a suit that gives the company the authority under patent and contract law to enforce the single-use only policy that is written on the packaging in which their printer ink cartridges are packaged. This means that anyone who refills a Lexmark printer ink cartridge for reuse could face charges and legal action.

5. The prebate concept. Not all Lexmark printer ink cartridges are labeled single use only. For these unlabelled items, Lexmark has a promo that gives a 20% discount on printer ink cartridges if consumers return them to the company after a single use of the product. Those who fail to return them are breaking the law and could face legal action if they refill a printer ink cartridge, send it to a third-party ink refiller or simply do not return it to Lexmark.

Consumers who are buying printer ink cartridges anywhere in the world are advised to investigate the policies surrounding the reuse or refill of the indispensable items before engaging in this practice.

Printer ink cartridges are the life line of your printer – how are you able to use them when you are out of cartridges? But, as usual, most people have problems with cartridges because of one reason: money. Like many other cartridges, they think that these ones are expensive and unreasonable; thus, resulting them to buy replacement inks or refilled cartridges.

Replacement or ink-refilled cartridges are not made by your printer’s manufacturer or supplier – they are third-party inks that are made by usually small companies. You can either buy an ink to refill your cartridge on your own, or you can buy pre-refilled ones. There are also some printer ink cartridges which can be connected to big bottles of ink that are placed outside your printer – now that’s big. However, manufacturers are on the campaign to always use original cartridges to assure the safety and maintenance of your printers.

Original cartridges, on the other hand, assure you of 100% compatibility and security when it comes to your printers. You don’t have to worry about broken warranties, as well. These cartridges offer you full support and high-quality printing. You also have the choice to pick the right cartridge for photos or for everyday printing.

Since the cost of living today is constantly on the rise, it isn’t a surprise that most people opt to buy cheaper printer ink cartridges. While most printer manufacturers have tried to lower their prices, ink-refilled ones are still very popular. But the choice is entirely up to the consumers.
